The times and thoughts of an aircraftengine mechanic

March 27, 2006

The day today.

Now why is it that every time some plans to go to bed early they end up doing the exact opposite. Now I knew I was going to work this morning, but none the less I just forget that…

Ok, early up, around 05.50. I actually had time to prepare real breakfast this morning, not some halvwitted cereal stuff. Arriving at work in the normal matter, getting into work clothes, standard sweater and a pair of working pants with a hole in the groin… I got new pants now…

The entire day is spent with the extremely "fun" task of final assembly of a core major module for a CFM56-3C egnine. This should normally take a total of 2 days. I only had what we call the front stators, which should take about half a day……..But no… Most small parts like bolts for split flanges and brackets are missing (Damn you people who borrow parts from other engines…. especially my engines!!). The problems with missing parts turns out to get fixed by 01.00 PM…only problem now is the fact that this job should be finished by 03.00.

Anyway, after some "speedy" building thanks to me and my "little" helpers the job is finished, I even manage to make a runout check of the rotor before I leave.

In short words… this was a fast summary of my workday…
